Technical Issues

3.0.0 - What specifications are needed for my computer to run RealTick® properly?

3.1.1 - I've installed RealTick, and want to run it on my computer's multiple monitors. When I maximize RealTick, though, RealTick only takes up all of one monitor.

Click-and-drag the borders of RealTick to expand the RealTick window across all monitors. If you cannot manually expand the window past one monitor, right-click on your task bar and left-click on Cascade Windows to reset your display properties. This will reset all open windows (including non-RealTick applications).

How to click-and-drag the borders of RealTick:

If you use more than one monitor, any window on your screen will only take up one of the monitors when you click the window's maximize button. If the window is already maximized and you click the maximize button again, you will be able to resize the window across your monitors.

1. Place your mouse pointer on the bottom border of the RealTick window. When you are over the correct area, your mouse pointer should change to a double-headed arrow.

2. Hold down your left mouse button, and drag the mouse downward. You should see a ghost image of the border drag along with it.

3. Release the left mouse button. RealTick should expand to the line you dragged.

4. Place your mouse pointer on the right border of the RealTick window. When you are over the correct area, your mouse pointer should change to a double-headed arrow.

5. Hold down your left mouse button, and drag the mouse to your right. You should see a ghost image of the border drag along with it.

6. Release the left mouse button. RealTick should expand to the line you dragged.

You may use the same technique to expand RealTick upwards or to the left as needed..

3.2.0 - What are the Internet connection specifications for my computer to run RealTick properly?

We recommend at least a broadband connection, such as DSL or cable.  RealTick will also work with a satellite connection.

The important thing to remember with your Internet connection is that you must have ping times less than 250ms.  Generally speaking, the lower the ping times, the better.

How to Check Your Ping Times:

Note: This assumes your computer is turned on, and you have successfully dialed in to your internet connection.

1. Click the Start button. A menu appears.

2. From the Start menu, click on Run. The Run dialog will appear.

3. In the Open field of the Run dialog, type in the letters "cmd."  A black box, called the Command Prompt, should appear..

4. In the Command Prompt, type "ping beacon.taltrade.com."  Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

This runs a program which sends 4 test packets of information to a computer named beacon.taltrade.com. This computer should be reachable from anywhere in the Internet. If the command has run successfully, you should see four lines beginning with "Reply from."  On the right-hand side of each of those lines you should see a time in milliseconds -- e.g.: Reply from 198.207.140.207: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=126 This time must be under 250 ms for RealTick to work properly. If you see:

Destination host unreachable

OR

Reply from (some IP address): Destination host unreachable

then your ISP is unable to send the test packet to our server.
If any of the lines read:

 Request timed out

then one of the test packets did not complete its trip between your computer and our computer.  This suggests that there could be a problem with your Internet connection, especially if you receive many of these lines.

3.2.1 - How can I configure RealTick to pass through a firewall?

RealTick does not need additional configuration to go through a firewall; however, you will probably need to make some configuration changes to your system to allow RealTick to pass through the firewall.

RealTick from an Office
If you are in an office, your network's or ISP's firewall must be configured to allow outbound TCP connections on ports 80, 443, and 1838 for all IP ranges listed below (regardless of location). It is not necessary to configure these ports for inbound connections from our servers.

North America IPs:
63.75.60.*
63.75.61.*
63.75.62.*
63.160.212.*
63.160.213.*
63.160.214.*
63.215.120.*
198.207.140.*

Europe IPs:
193.254.198.*

RealTick from Home
If you are using RealTick at home, and your home computer has firewall software -- e.g., Windows XP firewall, Symantec (Norton), Trend Micro, ZoneAlarm, MacAfee -- you will probably have to configure your software to allow RealTick to connect to the Internet.  You can contact the support department of your firewall software for specific details on configuring your software.

Note: Some software requires you to enter the actual name of the RealTick application -- in this case, you should allow rt332.exe (the RealTick executable) and ypermcache.exe (RealTick 's permissioning program).

3.3.0 - Can I run other trading software along with RealTick?

It is advisable to limit the number of quote source programs/trading platforms running on your computer while you are using RealTick.  This is to prevent excessive strain on your computer's and your Internet connection's resources.
